The Anambra State Police Command has arrested Obinna Anene, a 33-year-old man from Amene Village, Abagana, for his alleged role in the gruesome murder of 74-year-old Alice Anene. The elderly woman was reportedly burned and killed in Abagana on January 27, 2025.
The arrest was confirmed by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement issued from Awka. Ikenga revealed that Anene, identified as the principal suspect in the crime, has been taken into custody and is being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for further interrogation.

“The suspect, Obinna Anene ‘m’ aged 33yrs of Amene Village, Abagana, who was mentioned as the principal suspect in the case of burning and killing of a 74-year-old woman, Alice Anene, at Abagana on 27/01/2025, has been arrested. He is being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide SCID Section Awka for a debrief. Further details shall be communicated,” the statement read.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but the incident has sparked outrage among residents of Abagana, who have called for justice. Authorities assure that investigations are ongoing and that more updates will be provided as the case progresses.
