Operatives of the Special Anti-Cult Squad in Enugwu Ukwu intercepted two suspects during a routine security operation along the Umudioka-Awkuzu Road near Igbariam on Saturday, January 25, 2025. The operation, which occurred at about 5:38 p.m., led to the recovery of a Beretta pistol, two live rounds of ammunition, and a white Toyota Corolla vehicle with registration number YAB 26 CB.
The suspects, identified as Raphael Peverga and Saakura Teryima, both 22 years old and from Benue State, were arrested after they attempted to evade a security search. According to reports, the suspects, along with two others, jumped out of the moving vehicle when ordered by police operatives to stop for inspection. While Peverga and Teryima were apprehended, the other two suspects managed to flee and are currently at large.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, commended the officers for their vigilance and assured the public of the command’s commitment to strengthening security measures across the state. “We will continue to develop strategies and improve operational positioning to root out criminal elements and protect the lives and property of our citizens,” the Commissioner stated.
SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra State, confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and called on residents to report any suspicious activities in their communities.
This arrest is part of the intensified security measures aimed at addressing crime in the state, particularly on key roads and suspected criminal hotspots.
