The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation, and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) has apprehended a middle-aged man at a tomb in Kere, Obada-Oko, Abeokuta, Ogun State, while allegedly attempting to exhume a human skull.
In a statement issued by Commander (Dr.) Soji Ganzallo through Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf, Director of Information and Public Relations, the incident occurred at about 2:35 a.m. on January 21, 2025. Officers on routine patrol observed suspicious activity on a parcel of land behind a church and discovered the suspect, 54-year-old Adelani Oriyomi, attempting to dig up a tomb.
Oriyomi confessed during interrogation that he had previously exhumed a skull on January 18, 2025, and was attempting to retrieve another for a ritual known as “Osole.” He admitted to being a repeat offender, having sold nearly ten skulls in the past. His criminal history includes prior arrests and convictions, with prison terms totaling nearly nine years.
A fully dried human skull was recovered as evidence, and the suspect has been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Obada Divisional Headquarters, for further investigation and prosecution.
Commander Ganzallo emphasized the importance of community vigilance, urging leaders to screen residents and visitors to prevent harboring individuals involved in criminal activities. He noted that such precautions could significantly enhance community security.
