Awka, Anambra State — Human rights activist and National Convener of the Recover Nigeria Project (RNP), Comrade Osita Obi, has called for the re-election of Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, citing his transformative efforts across the state.
Speaking at a press conference in Awka on Tuesday, Obi highlighted Soludo’s achievements, including the revitalization of Awka as a befitting state capital and numerous ongoing and completed projects across the state’s 179 communities. Obi described the governor’s performance as exemplary, urging political aspirants to withdraw from the upcoming November 8, 2025, governorship election and instead support Soludo’s administration.
“Governor Soludo’s efforts in changing the narrative of Awka as a glorified state capital and his commitment to projects that enhance the lives of Anambra residents are enough evidence for him to be re-elected unopposed,” Obi stated.
He also urged politicians to channel their resources toward bolstering the state’s security architecture rather than pursuing what he termed “fruitless ambitions.”
Addressing the ongoing dispute between Governor Soludo and Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma (Ebube Muonso), Obi urged the cleric to apologize for his public criticism of the governor. He stressed that while citizens have the right to criticize, it must be done respectfully.
“Criticism should be done within the boundaries of decency. Calling the governor wicked or suggesting he is happy about insecurity is inappropriate. The governor is an institution and should be respected,” Obi said.
The activist emphasized that Governor Soludo’s leadership has positively impacted security and infrastructure in the state. He noted that after personally inspecting several projects initiated by the governor, he was convinced of Soludo’s vision and urged others to support him.
“If a man is doing well, we should allow him to complete his work. Soludo has demonstrated great commitment to Anambra’s development, and I appeal to everyone to support him,” Obi added.
Obi also retracted a previous statement threatening to protest at Rev. Fr. Obimma’s church, admitting his remarks were made out of anger. He reiterated his belief that unity and constructive dialogue are crucial for Anambra’s progress.
As the state gears up for the 2025 governorship election, Obi’s endorsement of Governor Soludo adds to the growing calls for continuity in leadership to sustain ongoing developmental efforts.
