In a bold and unexpected move, renowned human rights activist Comrade Osita Obi has called on all aspirants for the 2025 Anambra State governorship election to step down and instead direct their campaign resources toward the state’s security endowment fund. Obi’s appeal is aimed at bolstering the efforts of the incumbent governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, whom he commended for his significant strides in governance.
Speaking about his decision, Obi highlighted his firsthand experience overseeing Soludo’s projects, which he said demonstrate the governor’s commitment to the state’s progress. According to Obi, Soludo’s achievements make a compelling case for continuity, eliminating the need for political contestation in the forthcoming election.
“The governor’s dedication to Anambra’s development speaks volumes. It would be more impactful if aspirants joined forces with him rather than competing,” Obi stated.
Addressing criticisms from supporters of Reverend Father Ebube Muonso, a prominent voice demanding enhanced security in the state, Obi defended his integrity as an activist. He pointed to his long-standing advocacy for good governance, including his efforts to promote local government elections during Peter Obi’s administration. Obi also recalled his role in advocating for improved electricity supply in Awka, a campaign that earned him a N100 million lawsuit from the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), still pending in federal court.
While acknowledging Reverend Father Muonso’s concerns about security, Obi urged for constructive dialogue over personal attacks on the governor. “It’s essential to engage with decorum and focus on solutions rather than hostility,” he added.
The activist’s call has sparked widespread debate across the state, with supporters and critics weighing in on the implications of his proposal. As the 2025 elections approach, Obi’s intervention adds a new dimension to the political discourse in Anambra State.
