The anti-kidnapping squad of the Imo State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Uchenna Okpara, for the alleged stabbing murder of his in-law, Uchenna Unakalamba, in Ubomiri, Mbaitoli Local Government Area.
The incident, which took place on January 16, 2025, arose from a minor disagreement involving their children. Reports indicate that the situation escalated, resulting in Okpara attacking Unakalamba with a broken bottle. The victim sustained critical injuries and was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Police quickly responded to a distress call, leading to Okpara’s arrest and the recovery of the weapon used in the assault.
DSP Okoye Henry, spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, confirmed the arrest, stating, “The suspect is currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing. Upon conclusion, he will be charged to court for prosecution.”
The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and emphasized the police’s vow to combat violent crimes while maintaining peace in the state. He urged community members to resolve conflicts through peaceful means and to avoid resorting to violence.
The tragic nature of this incident has left the local community in shock, with many calling for justice and increased measures to prevent violence in the region.
