In a pre-Christmas crackdown on criminal activities, a joint security team led by the Nigeria Police Force successfully destroyed a criminal camp in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area, during a strategic operation on December 24, 2024. The operation, which included the Military, Civil Defence, and Anambra Vigilante operatives, marked a significant victory for law enforcement in the state.
The raid resulted in the destruction of makeshift structures within the camp, the recovery of 19 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and injuries to several fleeing suspects. This decisive action was made possible through credible intelligence on the gang’s activities and further information obtained from recent arrests in ongoing police operations across the state.
Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, lauded the collaboration between security agencies and the public, emphasizing the critical role of actionable intelligence in achieving this success. “The synergy between our forces and the vigilance of the public has been instrumental in this operation,” CP Itam stated. “We remain committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all residents during and beyond the festive season.”
In a follow-up directive, the Commissioner urged all hospital proprietors—public and private—to report individuals presenting with bullet wounds or other suspicious injuries to the nearest police station. This, he noted, is vital to apprehending the remaining suspects and curbing future criminal activities.
The Anambra State Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining security during the yuletide. “Our focus remains on security dominance through sustained patrols and targeted operations. Residents can rest assured that their safety is our top priority,” Ikenga affirmed.
This operation underscores the resolve of Anambra’s security apparatus to prevent crime and maintain peace, offering a renewed sense of safety to citizens as they celebrate the season.
