The Anambra State Police Command continues its relentless efforts to combat criminal activities in the state. In a swift and coordinated operation on November 29, 2024, operatives attached to the Operations Department of the Command thwarted a violent attack along the Agulu/Nnobi road, demobilizing one member of a suspected secessionist group.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. when armed criminals, traveling in a grey Lexus ES 330 (Plate No: ACA 551 MA) and an ash Toyota Highlander (Plate No: SMK 544), launched an unprovoked attack on a police convoy. A fierce gun battle ensued, during which the operatives, supported by the Joint Security Team, successfully repelled the attackers.
Recovered from the scene were a pump-action gun, five live cartridges, five machetes, two SUVs, and two pairs of desert shoes. The assailants fled the scene with bullet wounds, abandoning their vehicles and escaping into a nearby bush. The Police, along with the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG), have intensified operations in the area to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Police Command is calling on the public to provide any information that could assist in capturing the culprits.
In a separate development, the Joint Security Team responded to a distress call along Ukwulu Road on November 27, 2024. Armed men had abducted two individuals in the Ugwunwasike-Ogidi area of Idemili North Local Government Area. Upon being pursued by security operatives, the assailants shot the victims, abandoned them in their vehicle, and fled.
One of the victims succumbed to injuries at the hospital, while the other is receiving treatment. The operatives successfully recovered the victims’ vehicle and have stepped up their search for the suspects.
The Anambra Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Echeng Echeng, reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and order in the state. Updates on these operations will be provided as investigations progress.
The Police urge residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest security station.
