In a decisive operation aimed at curbing criminal activities, the Joint Security Force in Anambra State has apprehended a couple over their alleged involvement in an attempted kidnapping scheme. The suspects, identified as Mr. Okoye Kingsley (36) and Mrs. Chidinma Okoye (27), were arrested early Friday morning in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area, following a technology-driven investigation.
According to the Anambra State Police Command, the couple specialized in sending threatening messages to unsuspecting individuals, demanding ransom under the threat of abduction or death. Upon their arrest, several phones and SIM cards were recovered. The suspects reportedly confessed to the crime, admitting to destroying some of the SIM cards previously used in their extortion schemes.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has directed the immediate transfer of the case to the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping and Robbery Squad for comprehensive investigations. Upon the conclusion of the inquiry, the accused are expected to face prosecution in court.
The arrest comes amid heightened public concern over a trending voice note detailing a security report about a victim narrowly escaping abduction by an alleged security operative. The police confirmed they are investigating the incident and employing intelligence tools to identify and apprehend the suspects involved.
Speaking on the matter, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to ensuring safety. “We will not take any security threats lightly. Every measure is being activated to prevent a recurrence of such incidents,” Ikenga stated.
Residents of Anambra State are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
