Governor Charles Soludo marked the 2024 World Teachers’ Day by honouring teachers in Anambra State, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to improving education. The event, held at the Teachers’ House in Awka, celebrated the dedication and role of educators in shaping the future of the state and the nation.
In his speech, Governor Soludo acknowledged the indispensable role teachers play in society, expressing gratitude for their resilience, especially during challenging times when they had to adapt to new teaching methods. “Education is the bridge to the future,” the Governor declared, adding, “Teachers hold the padlock and the keys.” He emphasized the significance of education as a vital tool for societal growth, noting that Anambra continues to excel in education outcomes with public school enrollment rising by 18% and the state ranking first in the lowest number of out-of-school children in Nigeria.
Governor Soludo urged teachers to persist in their mission, reminding them that their work leaves lasting impressions on students. “I can remember all my teachers today because they left lasting impressions on me,” he shared, highlighting the vital role teachers play in shaping students’ lives.
The event also featured remarks from Comrade Chika Chukwudozie, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), who commended the Governor’s achievements in improving infrastructure, revamping the education sector, and empowering youths. Chukwudozie pledged the continued support of teachers for the Governor’s initiatives, which have significantly advanced various sectors in Anambra State.
The World Teachers’ Day celebration, attended by key education stakeholders and a large number of teachers, was a milestone in recognizing the contributions of educators. Governor Soludo’s participation underscored his administration’s ongoing support for the teaching profession and its commitment to ensuring quality education for all students in Anambra.
