Anambra, Nigeria – A recent amendment to the ANSIEC law by the Anambra State House of Assembly has sparked controversy and exposed the motives of Eneh and his associates. The amendment, which was carried out in strict adherence to the law, has threatened the financial interests of Eneh’s paymasters, leading to his recent outbursts and baseless accusations.
The Anambra State House of Assembly, under the capable leadership of Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Nkem Udeze, made the amendment in line with its responsibilities as a key arm of government. However, Eneh’s frustration stems from the fact that this amendment reduces the influence of his paymasters and their impostors, posing a significant threat to their interests.
Contrary to Eneh’s claims, the amendment is not illegal. The 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria grants concurrent legislative powers to both Federal and State Assemblies, including elections into local government offices. The Anambra State House of Assembly acted well within its rights and responsibilities, with the amendment necessary and timely considering the absence of local government elections in the state for over a decade.
The amendment allows an alternative pathway for the nomination of candidates for local government positions, reducing the control of Eneh’s paymasters. This move aims to prevent post-election malfeasance and preserve the peace and stability that Anambra currently enjoys, fostering development in the state. However, Eneh and his associates seem intent on exploiting chaos for personal gain.
To further understand the context, the recent Supreme Court judgment in SC/CV/343/2024 nullified any form of appointment into the Local Governments within the Federation, emphasizing the need for states to conduct elections or risk forfeiting allocations meant for those LGAs. The Anambra State Assembly expedited the amendment process to avert this dire outcome, aligning with constitutional provisions and ensuring the continuation of federal allocations and development in the state.
Eneh’s intentions, originating from his base in Enugu, clearly aim to disrupt the development and progress of Anambra State. However, the Speaker and members of the 8th Anambra State House of Assembly have steadfastly safeguarded the interests of Ndi Anambra against such destructive ambitions. Their commitment to prioritizing the welfare of Ndi Anambra remains unwavering, ensuring the continued growth and prosperity of the state.
