The Anambra State House of Assembly has officially confirmed the list of nominees sent by Governor Chukwuma Soludo for consideration as Transition Committee (TC) Members. In addition, the lawmakers have also confirmed councillors in the 326 wards of the state, solidifying the local government system.
The Governor’s request was conveyed through a letter read by the Speaker, Rt. Hon Somtochukwu Udeze, during a session at the House complex in Awka on Thursday. The Governor urged the lawmakers to confirm the nominees for the transition period in the local government system of the state.
During the session, the house dissolved into a committee of the whole, with the Majority Leader, Hon Ikenna Ofodeme (Ekwusigo State Constituency), moving a motion to confirm the nominees for a period of three months. After finding the nominees worthy through a voice vote, they were collectively invited and confirmed by the house.
However, two councillors’ nominees in Ogbaru and Nnewi South LGAs wards were not confirmed due to alleged petitions by their respective stakeholders. Despite this, the overall sentiment of the session was positive, with the Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Chukwuma Pius Okoye, describing the TC Chairmen as credible and vibrant individuals who would uphold Governor Soludo’s leadership ideals at the various jurisdictions.
Governor Soludo had sent the names of the 21 Transition Committee (TC) Chairmen and Councilors to the State House of Assembly on Wednesday, as mandated by the local government law of 1999 as amended. The tenure of these TC Chairmen and Councilors will be for a period of three months, during which they will serve the state and assist in the transition process.
With the confirmation of these nominees, Governor Soludo aims to ensure effective governance and smooth administration at the local government level. It is expected that these newly confirmed members will work in collaboration with the state government to bring about positive change and development for the people of Anambra State.
