The Anambra State House of Assembly members recently marked their one year anniversary in office, celebrating their achievements and expressing gratitude to their constituents for the opportunity to serve. Led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, the 8th Assembly has demonstrated unity and dedication, focusing on enacting quality laws and passing numerous people-oriented resolutions resulting from motions.
Among the notable bills passed by the Assembly are the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission Bill, the Revenue Administration, Consolidation and Harmonization Bill, the Anambra State Touting Prohibition Bill, the 2024 Appropriation Bill, the Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency Bill, the Anambra State Peace Building and Conflict Management Agency Bill, and the Anambra State House of Assembly Service Commission Amendment Bill.
In addition, the Assembly has made significant progress on various other bills, including the Anambra State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission Bill, the Trafficking In Person Prohibition, Enforcement And Administration Bill, the Secret Cultism And Similar Activities And Prohibition Bill, the Private Colleges Of Nursing And Midwifery Bill, as well as the Anambra State Newspaper And Printing Corporation Repeal Bill.
The Speaker emphasized that the Assembly has also passed over sixty people-oriented and development-driven resolutions, addressing various sectors of the state economy. They attribute their motivation for prompt implementation of these resolutions to the cordial working relationship between the legislative and executive arms of the government, facilitated by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Beyond their legislative responsibilities, the lawmakers have excelled in constituency relations and oversight duties. Recently, the Speaker embarked on a tour of roads in the state’s three senatorial zones, accompanied by lawmakers from each zone. Deeply impressed by the volume and quality of completed and ongoing road projects, the legislators commended Governor Soludo for his dedication to road infrastructure development.
The lawmakers expressed satisfaction in the diligent utilization of the state’s budget by Governor Soludo, who has not accessed the approved loan facility or borrowed money from external sources. They also highlighted the individual contributions of lawmakers to their respective constituents, through various constituency projects, empowerment schemes, and scholarship programs.
The Assembly’s oversight functions received commendations from different quarters, as they have played a vital role in repositioning government ministries, organs, and departments for optimal productivity. Additionally, the Assembly’s efforts in conflicts resolution have contributed significantly to enduring peace and harmony in communities and among corporate bodies.
As they celebrate their one year anniversary, the 8th Anambra State House of Assembly expressed gratitude to God, their constituents, and the press for their support. They commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his commitment to transforming the Assembly complex into a modern edifice. The Speaker also extended appreciation to the Clerk, staff, and entire citizenry for their prayers and support.
Looking ahead, the 8th Assembly is determined to build on their accomplishments, ensuring effective, accountable, independent, and responsible representation. They aspire to be recognized as the best state legislature in Nigeria, advocating for the interests of the people of Anambra through their legislative agenda, mandates, and vision. With God’s blessings and continued support from all stakeholders, they are confident in achieving even greater milestones in the years to come.
