Awka, Anambra State – On May 21st, 2024, known as World Tea Day, the founder and CEO of the Centre for Herbal Medicine and Centre for Psychic and Healing Administration (CPHA), Chief Dr Mrs Flora Ifeanyichukwu Nkemakonam Ilonzo, urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and governors of the 36 states in Nigeria to invest in herbal tea cultivation and production.
Chief Ilonzo believes that investing in local or herbal tea production will help diversify the economy, create jobs, and improve the health and wellbeing of the population. She suggested that lands across local government areas and communities should be mapped out for the cultivation of different species of African medicinal plants, which can be processed to create herbal teas for distribution, exportation, or consumption.
Chief Ilonzo’s teachings and remedies in phytomedicine have been recognized and praised by various international health institutions, including the World Health Organization (WHO). She also encouraged citizens to cultivate and harness herbal teas at home, offering her assistance to the country in navigating through this process.
In her message, she emphasized the numerous health benefits of herbal teas, stating that they can prevent or aid in the recovery from chronic diseases. She highlighted the antioxidants present in tea that combat free radicals in the body, reducing the risk of heart disease and certain types of cancer. Additionally, tea has been found to promote weight management, improve digestion, and boost the immune system.
Chief Ilonzo believes that by harnessing local tea cultivation, Nigeria can enhance its economy and improve public health. Cultivating tea within the country’s borders can tap into the growing market that values organic and locally sourced products, leading to job creation, especially in rural areas where tea plantations can thrive. The tea industry has the potential to become a significant contributor to Nigeria’s economy, attracting investment, creating employment opportunities, and fostering sustainable growth.
In conclusion, Chief Ilonzo sees the harnessing of local tea cultivation as a pathway to both economic prosperity and improved public health. By investing in tea plantations, the country can create employment opportunities, stimulate economic growth, and position Nigeria as a key player in the global tea market. Furthermore, promoting tea consumption can lead to healthier lifestyles and contribute to the overall well-being of the population. Chief Ilonzo urged the support of initiatives that promote and develop the tea industry, working towards a future where Nigeria shines as a leader in both economic and health advancements.
