Awka, May 14th, 2024 – The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, took a proactive step towards enhancing the administrative proficiency of the Nigeria Police Force by delivering a lecture to the heads of units in the Administrative department. This event, held at the DSS Formation in Awka, aimed to strengthen strategic planning, welfare, human resources management, and performance assessment within the Force.
During the lecture, CP Itam emphasised the integral role of the Administrative department in managing various aspects such as strategic planning, welfare, and human resources, as well as evaluating performance. He reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force is committed to maintaining discipline, transparency, responsibility, responsiveness, and accountability. CP Itam made it clear that the Force will not tolerate any form of abuse of office, corruption, or unprofessional conduct, particularly in relation to the handling of correspondence and mail. Such misconduct not only goes against the professional principles of the Police but also hampers the execution of policies and directives, widening the trust gap between the citizens and the Force.
In addition to the lecture, CP Itam also paid a courtesy visit to the Department of State Services (DSS) in Anambra State. Acknowledging the DSS as a key partner in the fight against crime and the maintenance of internal security in the state, CP Itam emphasised the importance of greater cooperation and collaboration between the two agencies. He specifically highlighted the need for collaboration in intelligence gathering, joint operations, and other related activities to effectively combat crime and ensure the stability of internal security.
The Commissioner of Police’s visit to the DSS was met with a warm reception, with the Director of State Services, Mr. Adesina Bolarinwa MNSE FSI, and other senior members of the management present to receive CP Itam.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer of Anambra State Command, State Headquarters, Awka, disseminated the news of the lecture and courtesy visit to the media.
As CP Itam works towards enhancing the administrative proficiency of the Command, alongside fostering a stronger collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services, it is expected that these efforts will result in improved law enforcement, public order, public safety, and support services for the state.
