In a recent statement, the leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has debunked rumors suggesting that Prince Arthur Eze, the Prince of Ukpo kingdom, is harboring Fulani herdsmen in his country home of Ukpo in Anambra State.
The association urged the people of the Ukpo community, as well as the state and the general public, to disregard these allegations, stating that there is no truth to them. Allahaji Gidado Siddiki, the South East leader and National Deputy Director-General of MACBAN, explained in a statement that there are no Fulani communities between Enugwu Agidi and Aba Junction, as speculated in a voice clip being circulated.
He further emphasized that these allegations are malicious and intended to create discord in a society that has enjoyed harmony for many years. Siddiki highlighted that Arthur Eze, known for his philanthropic endeavors, treats everyone equally and with respect, bringing pride to the Igbo community as an Igbo figure.
The statement clarified that the voice clip circulating is a product of malicious intent, and any claims suggesting the presence of Fulani individuals or their cattle between Aba Junction and Ebenebe are baseless. The association expressed regret over the losses suffered due to the hostility propagated by those spreading these false rumors, with 15 individuals and 180 cattle lost between February and April 2024.
While less than 49% of cattle pastoralists currently operate within the South-East geopolitical region, the association urged Nigerians to embrace the spirit of accommodation, allowing individuals to engage in legitimate business activities regardless of their location within the country. They particularly called upon fellow South Easterners, predominantly from the Igbo tribe, to dismiss such rumors and continue extending hospitality to strangers, as it aligns with the historically inclusive approach that has contributed to the success and recognition of their community.
