The Anambra State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, to launch an investigation into the kidnapping incidents that recently took place in Ukwulu, Dunukofia Local Government Area. The party’s plea comes after the state government dismissed the claims made by a couple who reported an attack by a certain group in the area. Okelo Madukaife, the State Publicity Secretary of APC, criticized the government’s approach of using press statements to address security concerns, calling it “hasty, preposterous, and shocking.”
Madukaife argued that the government should have acknowledged the concerns raised by the couple and initiated a discreet investigation into the matter. He highlighted a previous incident in 2021 where an APC governorship aspirant was kidnapped in the same location described in the couple’s narrative. Madukaife suggested that if the state government had properly reviewed its security reports, it should have taken the matter more seriously. He emphasized the need for the government to seek assistance from various security agencies in order to uncover the truth behind the alleged incident.
Furthermore, Madukaife noted the increasing number of local governments in Anambra State, particularly in the Ihiala-Nnewi axis, that have been plagued by kidnapping cases. He expressed concern that if Dunukofia LG, which houses the Zone 13 headquarters of the Nigerian Police, also becomes affected, it would be an alarming situation for the entire state. Madukaife called on the Anambra State Government to fulfill its responsibilities and urged other commentators, including traditional rulers and NGOs, to allow for a proper investigation to take place.
The APC’s request for a thorough investigation reflects the growing concerns regarding security in Anambra State. The government must address these concerns promptly and take appropriate action to ensure the safety and security of its citizens.
