The President General of Nimo Town Development Union (NTDU) in Njikoka LGA, Anambra State, Engr. Dan Zeelunjo Anakpe-Analikukwu on Monday flagged off 2024 Farming season.
Anakpe-Analikukwu while speaking during the flagging Off tagged “Nimo Food Revolution War Against Hunger” said the target is to eradicate food scarcity and poverty by cultivating every agricultural land in Nimo Owa, Owe, Mkpuluata, Nkokpo, Agu Nogba and Agu Ekpe.
“During my campaign, i promised ndi-Nimo that their will be agricultural revolution, today is the commencement of its fulfillment.
“Nimo are hard working and industrious people with enough land that will accommodate everyone that wants to farm.
” Agriculture is very important especially now that the cost of living is high and it is
very necessary that all hands should be on deck so that we will end hunger and poverty in Nimo.
” Products such as yam, cassava, vegetables amongst other products will be planted this farming season. Soon, tractors will be brought to the farms with high breed seedlings.
“My administration is and will be different
from that of my predicassors. Will will abide by the constitution of NTDU”. The PG concluded.
First National Vice President NTDU Hon. Chigbo Aniedobe in an interview with journalists said the current condition especially as regards feeding is becoming unbearable which is the reason why the flag off of the farming season is important.
“We are here for total revolution and to eradicate food scarcity and poverty. The aim and objective is for all members of the community to come out em mass and farm so that by next year, we will have enough food to eat and sell. The message is to go and cultivate and not possess”.
Secratery General NTDU, Hon. Tony Mbubah and Hon.Mmaduka Egwudike in their separate interviews commended the present administration of NTDU led by the PG for the initiative.
“It is time for massive food preparation from Nimo. We will keep sensitizing our people on the importance of agriculture because the economy is getting weaker and we are having less purchasing power.
Public Relation Office NTDU, Hon. Omile Chukwuma Valentine while speaking to newsmen commended the PG of the community for the initiative of eradicating hunger, poverty and encouraging farming.
Omile revealed that for a long time, the Owe land has not been utilized but with the direction of government, ndi Nimo were asked cultivate and farm there this season.
NTDU Youth Leader Comrade Chidike Okwaji while speaking said the commencement of agricultural revolution is apt and commendable.
The Youth leader revealed that hunger has pesist because agriculture has been abandoned and neglected, stating that it wont be business as usual with the flag of the farming season.
” We want to return to our old days of farming because with this massive land and hardworking youths, we have the potentials of becoming the food basket of the state.
“This farming will continue because we resolved that every Mondays and Saturdays will remain general farm day till the end of the farming season.
” There is dignity in labour soo am advising everyone to grab and utilize this opportunity because agriculture is important in every society. He revealed that the economy of Nimo will improve if everyone get involve.
Elder Statesman in Nimo, Chief G.C Gold Obiefuna on his part gave a background history of the awa land stating that the land now belongs to Nimo Community.
Obiefuna (Aka Ji Aku Nimo) commended the PG for taking the bold step in making sure that the massive land is useful despite the controversies. He urged all members of the community to utilize the opportunity and end food scarcity.
