Gideon Falter, the head of the prominent Jewish campaign group Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA), was recently pulled aside by police during a Gaza rally in London and accused of “antagonising” pro-Gaza marchers simply because he is “openly Jewish.”
Video footage of the confrontation, which was shared online, shows a police officer accusing Falter of “breaching the peace” due to his Jewish identity. The officer states that Falter is “antagonising a large group of people” and expresses concern about the reaction to his presence.
The footage has sparked a furious response online, with Robert Largan, Member of Parliament for High Peak, describing it as “beyond appalling.” In response, the CAA has called for a mass demonstration on April 27.
In a video posted on social media, Falter condemned the incident and called for society to reject such behavior becoming the norm. He acknowledged the difficulties faced by frontline officers but urged the Metropolitan Police to take action to curtail or even ban these types of marches.
The CAA has also shared additional footage from the rally showing protesters.
