In a tragic incident that occurred on the 4th of April 2024, a fatal crash took place along the Onitsha-Asaba route at Bridge Head. The crash involved an articulated white and green Benz vehicle with the registration number NKE25LG. The cause of the accident has been identified as a brake failure, resulting in the vehicle crashing into pedestrians. The incident claimed the life of one female and left two others injured.
Upon receiving the report of the crash, officers from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) swiftly arrived at the scene. They promptly transported the two injured individuals to Toronto Hospital for immediate medical attention. Unfortunately, the female victim was pronounced dead and her body was subsequently taken to Toronto Mortuary.
The Sector Commander of RS5.3 Awka, Corps Commander Adeoye A. Irelewuyi, expressed his condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims. He urged them to stay strong during this emotionally challenging time. Commander Irelewuyi also took the opportunity to advise motorists and the general public to prioritize the maintenance culture of their vehicles. By regularly maintaining their vehicles, individuals can identify possible issues and ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations to prevent such tragic incidents.
The information regarding the crash was conveyed to the press by ARC CA IYIEGBUNIWE, the Staff Officer of Public Education for the State Public Enlightenment Officer (SPEO). Such communication is crucial in keeping the public informed about road safety issues and promoting awareness and caution among motorists.
