Anambra State is on high alert as the Joint Security Force intensifies its manhunt for insurgents who recently attacked two Police Stations in the State. The hunt for the gunmen has been extended to the Obofia Forest, Aguluezuchukwu, and Ogboji areas, where the insurgents are believed to be hiding.
On April 2nd, 2024, the highly mobile Police-led Forward Operating Base launched a strike on the insurgents’ camps in the targeted areas. The insurgents, who had set ambushes at various locations, engaged in a fierce firefight with the security forces. Ultimately, the insurgents were routed from their enclaves, which were subsequently destroyed.
During the operation, a significant amount of high-caliber ammunition, cartridges, a locally fabricated rocket launcher, and even stolen Police uniforms were recovered. Additionally, a Ford Pick-Up Truck without number plates, which is believed to have been used by the insurgents, was also seized.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, who ordered the operation, has made it clear that the hunt for the insurgents will not cease until they are completely routed from Anambra State. He has called on all troops and personnel involved in the operation to maintain the momentum until the State is completely safe from future cowardly guerrilla attacks by the insurgents.
The SP Tochuckwu Ikenga, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed this information and sent updates to newsmen on April 3rd, 2024.
The Anambra Joint Security Force’s intensified efforts and successful operation in targeting the insurgents’ camps demonstrate the commitment of the State’s security forces to safeguarding the lives and property of its residents. With the hunt extended to known hiding areas, the residents of Anambra can find solace in the fact that the Joint Security Force is actively working to bring these criminal elements to justice and restore peace in the State.
